Grover’s disease is caused by mercury and the signs and symptoms correlate very closely with blood mercury levels and damage to the basement membrane in the skin.
I have been diagnosed (by biopsy) with Grover’s disease. I am 74 years old and just recently have this outbreak. When I was in high school we had mercury in the science lab. Evidently nobody had any idea it could be harmful. We would take it out of a container and use it to polish coins or watch it roll around like a ball because of its high surface tension. The polished coins would be put back in our pocket and we didn’t bother to wash our hands or anything. That would have been nearly 60 years ago. Would you advise having some sort of test for Mercury? Is that some simple kind of blood test? And if it is Mercury is there a treatment for that?
Aside from that I had been guilty of taking a hot bath and lingering in it to read a magazine. No doubt that was a contributor. Now I get in and out and wash gently with soap. I bathe right after exercising and use cooler water. Hydrocortisone topical treatment does help but I need something less potent to use on a regular basis to keep it from flaring up again.
Thanks, Wayne

I am not aware of treatment with Calcipotrio.
I have recently had surgery for rotator cuff tear and have come down with what I think is Grovers Disease. Is there any connection with a stay in the hospital and this disease?
I work in a dental office with ventilation issues for 15 yrs, I work with mercury in the amalgam. Could this be a cause of my grovers?
We have your question and will be in touch soon.
My husband was diagnosed with grovers 2 years ago. It cleard up with
medical treatment. Now he got a rash on both lower legs and feet,
but did not have the raised areas, just red blotches. His feet also
swelled very badly. The edema gets so bad if he is up too long he
can hardly walk. He is wearing ted hose and keeping his feet up a lot.
GI Md said not lab tests show a problem, kidneys etc.And he has no
heart problems or hypertension.
Could this still be Grovers even though only on his legs, and would
it cause the edema? Thank you.
I was diagnosed with Grovers disease In December 2012. I’m a 42-year-old healthy woman, With freckles and mild sun damage. I have had little to no relief From the creams, And the prednisone had too many side effects To continue taking routinely. I’m considering altering my diet, Avoiding mmercury, etc. The symptoms appeared out of nowhere,
I had eczema for a few years, But seasonal and slight. I wasn’t prepared for Grovers I have the Exeter contracts signed. Do you need them back?disease. And it was very difficult for two doctors to diagnose. I look forward to hearing more about this if I can be of any assistance please let me know
