Watching a TV show in high definition is a different experience than watching it in standard def. The images are sharper and clearer. Now, doctors at Mayo Clinic are using high def CT scanners to see inside the body. The technology allows them to see more detail, but perhaps more important, it also allows them to reduce the amount of radiation patients are exposed to during scans.

I have never heard of such garbage. 40percent less dose on the previous GE VCTs? It cant be high definiton when the electronics in the system dont support the same frequency of transfer that the new detector can produce. ASIR blurs the image and loosess some low contrast.
HI TONY….WOULD LIKE TO UNDERSTAND MORE (DETAIL) ABOUT YOUR COMMENT ON ASIR. I WILL CHECK BACK FOR YOUR RESPONSE HERE AND PROVIDE MY EMAIL ADDRESS SO THAT WE CAN COMMUNICATE DIRECTLY (IF THAT’S ALRIGHT WITH YOU)
THANKS….
I have had three CT scans and three Pet Scans over the past two years.
Three years a XRay showed a tiny spot. A follow up catscan showed the same small spot a year later. I was told it’s ‘nothing’ but should be checked with an XRay every few years or so to make sure. Now my physician said I shild habe another cat scan to make sure its not growing.
I also have a 14mm mass in my Uterus, and blocked kidney all requiring a cat scan…three more diagnostic cat scans.
Do you know if the University of Washington Medical Clinic/Hospital and or Swedish Hospital Seattle have the new HD Cat Scanners?
I’m concerned that the last six diagnostic CatScan procedures have created an overload of radiation…one was a 45 minute radiation check on the functioning of my kidneys…and now four more diagnostic CAT Scans; 1. Kidney, 2. Uterus, 3. Lung, and 4. Knee (I recently injured the Knee earing the inner and outer muniscus).
The women in my family live well into their late 80′s to mid 90′s.
If I were your 70 year old mother what would you advise?
I think you in advance for your help in this matter.
Nan J.
Nan, thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, we cannot diagnose conditions, provide second opinions or make specific treatment recommendations through this correspondence. If you would like to be evaluated at Mayo Clinic, please call one of our appointment offices. The numbers can be found at mayoclinic.org. You will need to contact Washington Medical and Swedish Hospital directly to find out what equipment they have.
Oppps…The tiny spot mentioned above is in the lung.
My Geratric Physician says an XRay can not show if the tiny spot is cancerous or not and suggests a CAT SCAN immed…
However with the other three diagnostic CAT Scans that I am supposed to have in the next three weeks how much additional risk am I putting myself for each of these cat scans?
I’ve been reading that ‘every’ CAT Scan can cause cancer in 15 years…and I’ve had so many…
If it is advisible to have these four additional CAT SCANS listed above under the guidelines of Mayo Clinic? And if so is there any hospital in the Greater Seattle Area that has the new HD CAT Scan Machine. Please Advise. Thank You. Nan J.
