Heart Disease in Women

For decades, heart disease was considered a man’s disease. But what many people don’t realize is that each year heart disease kills more women than men. And because of this misperception, women with heart issues sometimes don’t get the diagnoses or care they need. Let’s go to Mayo Clinic where doctors are trying to change that.

Is it possible to get a transcript of this article? I am having a difficult time when trying to access the podcast. I was diagnosed with POTS syndrome six years ago by Dr. Luis Scott at Mayo. Before arriving at Mayo, I had been in and out of the hospital for over six weeks. By the time I arrived at Mayo, I could not find a cardiologist who had a clue what was wrong with me. I had been told my heart was beginning to fail. I was 38, an athlete with a resting heartbeat of 65. Within those 6 weeks I could no longer feed or bath myself, I had lost over 20 lbs. My heart rate lying down was up to 110, sitting around 140, walking 10 feet 175. I was told by Dr. Scott more than likely it was caused by some type of virus. He also said I was, at that time, the sickest patient he had treated with POTS. It was thought I would recover within a couple of years. Sadly, that was not to be. As I said it has been 6 years. I would like to hear more about this particular womens condition and also others. This is a condition, I feel, that you suffer alone. Not even some top cardiologists are familiar with. I am also wondering if you have any support groups affliated with Mayo. Thank you.
