Mayo Clinic Musculoskeletal Center Opens

If arthritis pain in your knee has you going in to see the doctor, the last thing you want is to have to run all over the place getting checked out.  That’s exactly the thinking that went into the new Mayo Clinic W. Hall Wendel, Jr. Musculoskeletal Center. The center, named after W. Hall Wendel, Jr., the former chair and CEO of Polaris Industries, brings together the expertise of multiple specialists to serve patients with musculoskeletal diseases

Wendel’s generous gift also established a Research Professorship, an endowment to advance musculoskeletal research that will improve the lives of orthopedic patients in the future.  Previous research led by Dr. Kenton Kaufman, the recipient of this Mayo Clinic endowed professorship, resulted in the development and recent Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of a computerized knee brace that enables patients with severe leg weakness to walk nearly normally. Dr. Kaufman talks about the center and the knee brace.
